I used to take the PLayer's Guide with me EVERYWHERE as a 7 year old kid - to baseball games, restaurants, on vacation without my SNES even with me. That's what Earthbound means to me. A video game of almost near perfection that still provides that sense of amazement and wonder every time I play it. I pick it up and do a full run through the game at least once a year.
When Mother 3 came out, I ordered it from PlayAsia and played through the entire game with a crude translation guide printed off, so I could make sense of what was happening. I had no idea how reliable the guide was as a translation tool, but even the visual style and music were so reminiscent of EB. Second favourite game of all time, and not even officially released in English!
I just played through Mother 1 (EarthBound Beginnings) recently, and what a hidden gem - the style, while somewhat rough around the edges, really stands out on the NES and sets the stage for the first game. Quality gameplay.
I will throw so much money to you, Nintendo, if you release Mother 3 in English. The entire series holds such a special place in my heart, and it would mean the world to the thousands and tens of thousands who feel the same about the series as I do. I sincerely hope this helps you to realize the love that we have for this series in territories other than Japan - not to mention that the sales of EarthBound Beginnings and EarthBound on Wii U must be a strong indication of how well it'll do!
